Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt: Stop #6 (Pink Team)

Elizabeth Goddard Uncategorized 59 Comments

Welcome to the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt! I am a part of TEAM PINK, and this is Stop #6. If you’re just joining us, there are two loops—pink and purple—and they begin at Lisa Bergren’s site and Robin Lee Hatcher’s site for stop #1 for either stream. For the Scavenger Hunt Basic Overview, read this.

If you complete either the pink loop or purple loop, you can enter for a Kindle Paperwhite and the 17 autographed books from that loop (by having the Secret Word clues together). If you complete BOTH loops, you can enter for the Grand Prize of a Kindle Fire HDX and ALL 34 autographed books (by adding up all the Secret Numbers). So write everything down as you go—if you run out of time, you can return to it later.

The Hunt begins at NOON Mountain time on April 16 and ends at MIDNIGHT Mountain time on April 19, 2015, so you have 3.5 days to complete all 34 stops, enter all individual, pink, purple, and Grand Prize contests and maximize your chances for a prize! Winners will be announced on April 20, 2015.

ALSO, please don’t use Internet Explorer to navigate through the loops. Some web sites won’t show up using IE. Please use Chrome or Firefox—they’re better anyway!

Now it’s time to meet my awesome guest author for the Scavenger Hunt, Dr. Richard Mabry. I’ve known him for several years now, meeting him first at a joint book signing. He even assisted me with a book, answering a few questions about my character’s medical condition. If you haven’t read his books, now is your chance. Here’s the good doctor’s bio:

RLM headshot,cropped (2)Richard Mabry’s Official Bio:

Dr. Richard Mabry is a retired physician, now writing “medical suspense with heart.” He is an active member of International Thriller Writers, a past Vice-President of the American Christian Fiction Writers, and a member the Romance Writers of America. His seven previously published novels have garnered critical acclaim and been recognized by programs including the ACFW’s Carol Award, the Romantic Times’ Inspirational Book of the Year, the Inspirational Readers Choice, and the Selah Award. His latest novel, Fatal Trauma, is scheduled for release on May 19 by Abingdon Press.

Now here’s the summary for his latest medical thriller, Fatal Trauma.

When Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson are held at the mercy of a dangerous gunman, the lives of every emergency room patiFatal Trauma (2)ent are at stake. At the end of the evening three men are dead. One of them is a police officer who couldn’t be saved despite Mark’s best efforts. The other two are members of the feared Zeta drug cartel.

Though the standoff is over, the killing is not, because when the drug cartel loses its members, revenge is not far behind. Facing an adversary whose desires are dark and efforts are ruthless, Mark finds himself under suspicion as a killer, yet still a potential victim. When he turns to his high school sweetheart, attorney Gwen Woodruff, for help, Kelly helplessly looks on, as she hides her own feelings for the good doctor.

At the height of the conflict, three questions remain: Who is the shooter? Who will the next victim be? And can Mark prove his innocence before the gun turns on him?

Does that sound thrilling or what? I admit, I’m a huge fan of Mabry’s thrillers.

For some reason, people seem interested in the life of a published writer. Before I joined that group, I had visions of a writer repairing to a quiet den where he or she could write in solitude, turning out words that were pure gold and never needed editing. When the author went out, people would point and whisper, “There goes…” And every few weeks, the postman would deliver a hefty royalty check, which the writer would put into an already fat mutual fund account. But now, as the late Paul Harvey would put it, I know the rest of the story.Office (2)

My office is far from the spacious, well-furnished room I envisioned. I often joke that it’s so small I have to step outside to change my mind (see photo). My time there is never uninterrupted, but I don’t mind. That’s one of the advantages of working at home. Although I try to get in some actual writing most days, my time in the office is also taken with email, blog posts (mine and those of others), marketing, and the hundred-and-one things that I’ve found demand a writer’s attention.

By the way, although I always warn writers to avoid this activity, when I have a new release, such as Fatal Trauma, I read the reviews. Although I generally enjoy them, there are always one or two that keep me humble. When I do get around to writing, I open my latest work-in-progress, read through the last couple of scenes (editing as I go), and write additional material. That not only gets me back into the flow of the novel, but also makes my subsequent editing and revision work easier.
During all this, I look around for adoring crowds but see none. I listen for brass bands but all I hear are children playing in the yard next door. And when the postman comes, he generally brings bills and circulars, not fat checks. No, this isn’t the writer’s life I imagined. There you have it, a typical writing day. It’s humdrum, totally devoid of drama, without the trappings of fame and fortune I once imagined. But would I change it? Not on your life.

I’m a published writer, and happy to be one.

I love your books. I have read some of the Suspense, but not the series you are giving away. When I look for books to read, if the cover catches my eye, most likely that book goes home with me. The covers of your book giveaway are great. Hopefully I will win but if I don’t I will be looking for you books.

      Hi Randi!

I’m glad to hear you are enjoying the books. And yes, there are more to come in the series. Backfire is the third book and Submerged comes out in October and my editor has on her desk the proposal for two more Mountain Cove books, and then I hope to start a new series set in the Rogue River Wilderness in Oregon. Love writing these books.
