Criminal Minds
Ever watch any of those crime dramas like Criminal Minds or Mindhunter, etc.? I haven’t. Imma be honest. I tried to watch them to supplement my research, but they were far too dark for me. I want to be entertained, not traumatized. Ha! Still, I’ve always been fascinated by individuals that explore the mind. Casting my heroine—Dr. Erin Larson—as a criminal psychologist meant heading into some dark zones, let’s say. But I wanted to find out what a criminal psychologist does in the real world, and what would drive my character into that field. (If you’ve read Present Danger (Rocky Mountain Courage book 1) then you met Erin.)
“Erin couldn’t begin to explain the complex events that drove her to talk about missing persons cold cases [in her podcast] in hopes that answers could still be found.” (Quote from Deadly Target) and I didn’t know why Erin was so driven either. The story had to unfold for me as a writer, the same as it would for a reader. Of course, I had to throw my criminal psychologist into action and adventure starting in Puget Sound and continuing in the Montana Rockies because my story needed a striking landscape for a backdrop (that’s my thing). Also important to me is to keep my storis on the light side so my readers are entertained (and not traumatized) while reading my stories. I hope you’ll join the Deadly Target ride for a dose of suspense. Intrigue. Murder.
