For those of you who haven’t met me, I’m Elizabeth Goddard and I write romantic suspense for Love Inspired Suspense and Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. By the way, you can call me Beth. I’ve been on this writing journey for almost twenty years and a couple of years ago I hit over a million books sold. God is good! He gave me this dream of writing and opened those doors. But it all started when I was a young, avid reader. I devoured suspense and romance novels. I loved Phyllis A Whitney and Victoria Holt (Eleanor Hibbert) so it makes sense that I would write romantic suspense novels—my own special brand. Secrets, Adventure, and Rock Climbing
It’s no secret that in my brand of story-telling I love to combine suspense with action and adventure, and those elements must take place around a spectacular setting, if possible. All those ingredients are tossed into a bottle along with a whole lot of love (romance) and then I shake it up. That’s my brand of romantic suspense, and after shaking it all up for Covert-Cover-up, I had an absolute blast writing this story.
I didn’t know a lot about the story when I started. But I knew about my hero—Beck Goodwin. Since this is a story about secrets, I’ll let you in on a one of mine. In fact, you’re the first to know that Beck was actually a character in another proposal idea that I developed several years ago. I had four or five books in a series I was working on, but it never went anywhere because I was so busy writing other contracted books. So when it came time to create my characters and the proposal for Mount Shasta Secrets book 2—Covert Cover-Up—I thought about the region around Mt. Shasta and Castle Crags State Park came to mind.

As you can see in this image, Castle Crags is aptly named for its huge rocky spires that give the appearance of a rugged and ancient monstrous castle. And if I was going to include Castle Crags for my spectacular setting, then none other than Beck Goodwin, my world-class rock-climbing hero, would have to step out of that other proposal and into this book! Woot! I love it when that happens. By “that” I mean I have a character already created who is just waiting for the moment when he can take a breath and step off the page. Beck lived up to his name and his background and is a larger-than-life character—the perfect guy to counter my private investigator Katelyn Bradley in Covert Cover-up!
