I’m pleased to host award-winning author James Rubart! I met him years ago at the ACFW  writing conference.  Here’s a brief summary of his new novel, The Pages of Her Life.

Allison Moore is barely making it. As she scrambles to keep her head above water, the words she’s written in her journal begin to disappear and new ones fill the empty spaces It forces her to look at everything in a new light. Ignoring the words could cost her everything, but so could embracing them.

The Transformational Power of Journaling

By James L. Rubart

In my new novel, The Pages of Her Life, my protagonist, Allison Moore, has a set of stunning experiences where she writes in her journal, and soon afterward, the words change. Those changes significantly transform her life.

While it’s doubtful words in our journals will change, we can still experience transformation by journaling.

Why Journal?

  • Self-awareness- When you evaluate your day it gives you a subconscious power to transform things you’ve been longing to change.
  • Increased creativity and problem solving- Most people jump on their phones or email first thing in the morning. That’s input. You’re getting things coming to you. Journaling is output. You’re the one creating the content. You’ll start to find ideas and solutions you didn’t know were there.
  • Cleared emotions and reduced stress- studies show writing in a journal on a consistent basis increases focus, helps you retain what you’ve learned to a greater degree, holds thoughts still so they can be more easily let go of, and empowers you to take action.

So why not give it a try? (Or get back to it if it’s been a while.)

By the way, my inspiration for The Pages of Her Life came as I sat on an on ramp waiting to get on the freeway. Rain poured down as I glanced to my left and saw a  journal that sat just off the asphalt. I was compelled to get out and pick it up.

I asked myself, “How did it get there? Whose was it? What if God placed it there for someone to find? What if He wrote in it like he did on the wall in the Old Testament?”

And the idea for The Pages of Her Life was born.
