I had planned to just share a picture of the fog.

I had planned to just share a picture of the fog. Our hill often disappears into a cloud—and its perfect for writing suspense! But then I realized that my coffee mug might need an explanation—and that every character has a backstory, including this snowman! Ha ha. A few years ago, my husband found a box of mugs in the street in front of our house. We assume they fell off a truck, but who knows? He tried to find the owner, without success.

Most of the mugs survived, including this little snowman, who looks suspiciously like someone’s ceramics class project. And now? He’s my favorite coffee mug. I drink from him every morning no matter the season.

So the real mystery, though, is —who made this mug? Where was he headed? And how did an entire box of mugs end up in the street? This mystery will remain unsolved.
